KC leaders share their paths to success
May 13, 2019
As seen in the Kansas City Business Journal, by Ellen Cagle (May 10th, 2019.)
The path to becoming a leader often is paved with truisms — because the tried and true yields results.
Three area leaders said the willingness to seize the opportunities that emerged, hard work and the confidence to ask for a challenging project were all tactics they used to become leaders. The three — Pat McCown, co-founder of McCownGordon Construction; Stacey Paine, president of Crown Center Redevelopment Corp.; and Andy Sareyan, CEO of Andrews McMeel Universal — sat on a panel Thursday as part of the Kansas City Business Journal's Paths to Executive Leadership series. The event was at the Country Club Plaza-area offices of Country Club Bank, the sponsor of the series.
“It was simply hard work. It was showing up every day, showing up with an attitude that I’m going to try to do my best, whatever that meant for that day,” said McCown, who started out as an engineer before switching gears to construction.
