The independent market-rate facility houses seniors in Abilene and Dickinson County. The facility features 19 apartments, commons spaces, exercise facility, patio/courtyard and community gardens.
Exterior work includes masonry restoration and installing new windows and doors that resemble the originals. The interior renovation includes new MEP systems and converting existing classrooms into individual apartments.
The project is classified as a historic renovation and is listed with the National Historic Register. One of the project’s largest challenges is the strict requirements to meet the state historic preservation and National Parks requirements.
The team focused on maintaining the original architecture while meeting the requirements for a senior living space.
