A Home Away From Home

Named in honor of Babe Thompson, wife of lead donor Frank Thompson, this newly constructed facility replaces the original Friendship Inn—a converted historical Victorian home that had been converted to accommodate four traveling families. The new facility features 18 guest suites with modern amenities.

Preserving Warmth & Comfort

A key goal of Babe’s Place was to preserve the warmth and comfort that patients experienced at the original Inn. Located in a historically designated neighborhood, the project team successfully navigated several challenges, including a tight site with no space for material storage. During construction, the team managed multiple major street closures to complete utility tie-ins and reconstruct street frontage, sidewalks, and curbs. Additionally, the site’s topography presented ADA accessibility challenges. Our team proposed alternative solutions that maintained compliance while saving the owner nearly $100,000.
