Early engagement and collaboration lead to sustainability success
In early July, Nate Sterns, McCownGordon project estimator, joined Ashley Eusey, Sustainability/Construction Manager from Hoefer Welker, and Tehmina Husain, Green Globes Project Admin at Merrick & Co., to discuss the Green Globes rating for the Johnson County VA project that was completed in May of 2022. They were selected to present at a regional Green Globes Workshop in Chicago run by the Green Building Initiatives (GBI). GBI is the organization that administers the Green Globe rating system. They emphasized the benefits of sustainability being a focus early in the design and integrated during construction.Â
It was because of teamwork and shared goals, that this healthcare project received two Green Globes certifications.
What is the Green Globes system?Â
An online assessment protocol, rating system, and guidance for green building design, operation and management. It is interactive, flexible, affordable, and provides market recognition of a building’s environmental attributes through third-party assessment. Similar to the LEED system, Green Globes is an alternative rating system to document sustainable aspects of a building during design and construction. This system is growing in use for Federal Buildings.Â
How does Green Globes improve building performance?Â
Green Globes paints a clear picture of your building’s performance, gives practical advice for design and operational improvements, and provides additional information on relevant strategies and technologies.Â
