McCownGordon purchases building in heart of downtown Wichita

McCownGordon's Wichita Office

McCownGordon Construction, one of the nation’s leading construction managers, purchased the building it’s been leasing space in for the last few years in the heart of Wichita’s Old Town business district. The 23,000-square-foot building, located at 255 North Mead Street, boasts a rich history in the Wichita community, originally serving as a Coleman factory before eventually being converted into an office building.

“As a 100% employee-owned business it was important to all our associates to make this purchase. The investment demonstrates our commitment to serving Wichita and the surrounding region for the long term. The building also provides us the flexibility to accommodate our growing workforce.” said Mitch Binns, market leader for McCownGordon’s Wichita office.

The company currently occupies 11,500 square feet on the building’s second story. It will continue to lease the first floor to the AGC of Kansas, Signal Theory and Ad Astra Financial Group. Prior to taking occupancy in August of 2021, McCownGordon remodeled the entire second floor and the space Signal Theory currently leases. The purchase also includes a portion of the parking lot south of the building.

“I’m committed to the future of the Wichita community and especially the Old Town area, where I’ve focused on redeveloping it into a thriving mixed-use district. I’m pleased to sell the office building on North Mead to McCownGordon because I know they are also deeply invested in the community and will play a role in its continued advancement and success,” said Dave Burk.

McCownGordon currently employs over 72 people in its Wichita office and serves clients across the state of Kansas, focusing on commercial office, higher education, healthcare, K-12, civic and manufacturing projects. It’s been named a Best Place to Work by the Wichita Business Journal three years in a row.
