With the university’s growth plans expansion became evident. McCownGordon partnered with Clark Huesemann for Pitt State’s first construction management at risk project to deliver a facility that will wow students, faculty and alumni and symbolize the evolution and growth of the school of nursing. The $6 million project includes a new 10,000 square foot simulation hospital with a nurses’ station, four exam rooms, six hospital rooms, a control room, an observation area and supporting workspaces. The space also includes a multi-functional, active-learning classroom that seats 160, a specialized classroom for a digital cadaver, student study spaces equipped with the latest technology and selective renovation of the existing facility’s classrooms, meeting spaces and public areas.

Construction will include a new fire sprinkler system and plumbing upgrades to the existing building which will require working around finishes that are to remain. The new addition will require coordination with the existing building at the tie-in location. The team worked nimbly and adjusted the plan after demolition, which revealed the facility’s existing conditions.
