Kansas Department of Health and Environment Lab – Project in Progress

Project Case Study
Kansas Department of Health and Environment contracted with McCownGordon for their new $63 million state-of-the-art laboratory facility through a construction management at risk method. In addition to lacking modern and efficient laboratory, support and office spaces, the existing facility continues to have increased operating and maintenance costs, inefficient energy conservation and lacks amenities for staff.

The new facility is anticipated to be approximately 100,000+ square feet. It will house all of the functions of the Office of Laboratory Services and provide significant space for future growth. With construction expected to be complete by the end of 2024, the project consists of multiple high-technology biology, chemistry and diagnostic laboratories, in addition to a BSL-3 lab. Additional scope includes shipping and receiving facilities, administration offices and staff amenity spaces. This cutting-edge, transformative facility will provide the State of Kansas with the resources necessary to provide high-quality laboratory services throughout the state.
