Due to changing demographics, Tomahawk Ridge Elementary closed at the end of the 2003 school year. Reopening as a multi-purpose facility, the building received extensive renovations and now includes the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center and the Overland Park Police Department. The renovated community center offers cardiovascular machines, seven flat-screen televisions, a free-weight area and two basketball courts. Other amenities include a child watch area, a complimentary game room and a birthday party room. The community center also has two refurbished gymnasiums and locker rooms with showers.
