Kansas State University’s Department of Grain Science and Industry and the Department of Animal Science and Industry jointly constructed a new Feed Technology Innovation Center. Utilizing a design-build approach, Kansas State University selected McCownGordon Construction and Treanor Architects through a qualifications-based selection process. The facility’s design promotes flexibility to accommodate new equipment and equipment prototypes as they are developed. In addition to the primary production, teaching, and research feed mill area, a smaller teaching and research area is embedded in the facility. This area is designated as a BSL-2 (BioSafety Level-2) facility that allows controlled research with low-level pathogenic organism such as Salmonella and E-coli.
