Central Missouri edged Pittsburg State by three-tenths of a point to claim the 2017-18 Commissioner’s Cup presented by McCownGordon Construction.  Central Oklahoma finished in third place followed by Nebraska Kearney and Northeastern State to round out the top five.

Central Missouri accumulated 193.5 points across 17 sports (for an average of 11.4) including first place regular season finishes in Women’s Soccer and Women’s Basketball.  UCM also had top 3 finishes in Football, Men’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field, Women’s Bowling, Baseball, Softball, and Men’s Golf.

"To win this trophy in back-to-back years is a tremendous honor that represents our entire department from our coaches and administration, down to our student-athletes,” said Central Missouri Athletic Director Jerry Hughes.  “I am incredibly proud of what our staff and student-athletes accomplish on the field, in the classroom, and as role models in the community."

The Commissioner’s Cup presented by McCownGordon Construction is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the league’s top performing school in conference play and is based on a point system, reflecting the finish of each team in conference play.

The number of points awarded per sport is based on the number of schools that participate in that particular sport.  Each institution’s grand point total is then divided by the athletic programs it sponsors, giving an overall average finish for the school.  A complete list of the Points Breakdown and other info on the Cup Scoring System can be found on the MIAA website.

“The MIAA is one of the most competitive conferences in the NCAA.  This year, 12 different conference schools won or tied for the regular season or conference tournament championship in at least one of the MIAA's 20 sports,” said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy.  “We are fortunate that an industry leader like McCownGordon Construction has joined the MIAA as the presenting sponsor of the MIAA Commissioner's Cup.  This award represents a season of hard work, commitment, and dedication by student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators, and we are pleased that McCownGordon will help us celebrate this success.”

McCownGordon Construction became the official Presenting Sponsor of the Commissioner’s Cup earlier this year.  McCownGordon has significant experience in a variety of market sectors including planning, servicing and completing higher education and sports projects and is recognized as one of the region’s largest construction managers with offices in both Missouri and Kansas.
